Day-off #
SO today its the 2nd easter day. Yesterday we had some family come over and we celebrated a nice and fun day of easter. We did an easter-lunch/brunch and then we did some other fun activities. I did manage to eat a lot and i already ate like 30 easter chocolate easter eggs and a chocolate easterbunny. Now today i decided to work a bit on mathematics. Sadly i failed the maths test on 1 April (Not a joke) and thus have to retake the test. The plan is that at that test we must reach 70% minimum and thne after the test we ned to work till we mastered 80%. We work in a online environment called Aleks by MC Graw Hill and they are very strict and we need to reach 80% to even pass so yeah its a demanding challenge and i am slowly getting sick of it. Also this is my second time doing mathematics as i failed in the first semester so i had to retake mathematics. I did improve as i was stuck on like 30-40 percent in the first semester and now in 2nd semester i am in the 60-70 so thats good! The test did drop me from 75% to just 58 percent so yeah, quite a tumble! IT was also kind of my own fault as i crammed most of the math stuff into a couple of days before the test and forced my brain to take it in, which did not work ofcourse. Now i have the retake on the 23th of April and every day i am commited to doing a tiny bit so i keep my brain busy with math, but also dont overwork by doing 6 hours of math a day which did not work and i learned from my past mistakes hopefully. Hope i pass next test and i will be trying my best. I am also waiting for components to arrive as i am in the process of fixing a TV from the same family memeber who gave me his broken vacuum cleaner and a electric piano. So that is also a nice oppertunity to reach a healthy percentage in Aleks. I am aiming for 80-90 percent so i have a (hopefully enough) buffer when the test goes haywire. Putting the school/study stuff asside for now, as thats not really that important (But i just wanted to let you know how i am and where i stand currently).
Busy with repair #
I am in the process of writing that article on the blog and its now a draft, but when the components arrive i hope to publish the article. I wont go into much detail, but it was a primary side switching IC that failed and caused a no-power issue. I ordered from 2 different sellers, so in case 1 sells a fake, i hope i have one which works. I did buy from hopefully reputable and proper rated sellers, but on Aliexpress its always a bit of a hit or miss. So when those come in i can hopefully fix the TV.
Tackeling the comment-system #
So another suggestion i got from family members was introducing a comments system that was more open and allowed non tech-savvy users to comment (cause they wont have a github account and dont even know what it is), cause the previous GISCUS systemr elied on github. Also i wanted to ditch bigtech as much as possible and while giscus is opensource, GitHub, which it relies on is not Free and Opensource. And its owned by microsoft, a big tech company that manages to mess some things up and just does some weird questionable stuff. If microsoft manages to break their windows11 os by putting AI into every corner and bricking windows pcs due to bad updates coded using AI, i dont trust github. My family also often has problems like wifi not working or slow laptops and its all due to microsoft using Ai to vibecode their os and thus introducing tons of bugs and system breaking stuff. If it was not for the countless software that only supports windows, i am sure everyone would have switched to Apple MAC or (GNU/)Linux. I wont fully ditch bigtech and i cant, cause the whole world’s infrastructure and stuff basically has it embeded deep into the roots, so getting stuff done will be next to impossible. But where i can, i will avoid it. Also i must be comfortable with ditching it myself.
So for the new comments system, its largely opensource and while it can integrate some bigtech stuff like gmail and other mail providers, it does also allow anonymous users to log in by only specifying a name. I will fine tune the system as i dont know if i will keep the anonymous login as it does allow trolls and bots to go loose. I am still thinking about this and its still a Work-In-Progress. This wont completely tackle the Anti-bigtech mindset, but i also dont plan on to do so. As i said it must feel comfortable and worth it for me to step away from all bigtech and sometimes its unavoidable which is fine for me. This does tackle the issue of “non-tech-savvy people cant comment” issue as it wont rely on purely requiring a Github account as it allows multiple mail providers. I dont yet have any SMTP server setup or the rest thats required for remark42 to work, so for now anyone can leave a comment by providing only a name. I will change this in the future though.
Anyways, thats all i am busy with. I will fine tune this system whenever i have the time/energy/motivation to do so. Just note that after this week i have 2 weeks where i have tests so i will primarily be busy and focussed on that so i wil spend less time on other things, cause i do want to hopefully pass this semester.
The comment system is selfhosted in its own seperate container and has its own endpoint.
